Police have deactivated 31 home-made bombs which recovered from an under-construction building in the city's Uttara area.

Police also detained—Sumon and Mamun, residents of Turag Police Station area, in this connection.

Earlier, members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police and Uttara (West) Police Station cordoned off the building on Road 13, Sector 10 at Uttara at about 4:30pm.

Later, a bomb disposal team entered the building and defused the bombs.

DB’s deputy commissioner Kazi Shafiqul Alam said they arrested two people who kept the bombs at the building.

During initial interrogation, both of the detainees were identified as Jubo Dal leaders, he added.

A police source said four bombs were blasted in the area on the day of Dhaka-18 by-polls. A number of people were arrested over the incident, reports a Bangla news portal.

Acting on information given by the arrested persons, some unexploded bombs have been recovered from Kamarpara area, the sources added.

Police suspect the unexploded bombs were supposed to be used on the by-election day.
