Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday called for stopping intrusion of controversial persons and wrongdoers into the party by any means.

“Sub-committees of the Awami League will be announced within a day or two. Intrusion of controversial persons, convicted criminals, frauds should be stopped,” he said after attending an AL secretariat meeting at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office here.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina joined the meeting through a videoconferencing.

Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, SM Kamal Hossain and Mirza Azam, Publicity and Publications Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Labour and Human Resources Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Deputy Publicity and Publications Secretary Aminul Islam Amin and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan attended the meeting, among others.

Quader said one person cannot be in more than one post in the party or associate bodies.

If one has a post in city unit or any associate body, he or she cannot be in the sub-committees, he added.

“We don’t want any intrusion in the committees. Those who are member secretaries in the committees will have to keep special watch on the matter,” he said.

Turning on coronavirus situation, the AL general secretary said his party will organizationally conduct awareness raising campaign about the possible second wave of the coronavirus and organizational units have been given directives to this end.

“The entire world is facing serious trouble in the second wave of coronavirus. We must have to be more conscious now. Health guidelines must be maintained strictly and all will have to wear facemasks mandatorily,” he said.

The minister said a vested quarter is out to spread misleading information and rumors against the government and the evil forces are trying to destroy the communal harmony.

“We want to clearly say that Awami League is the party of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is leading the party. There is no scope to budge from the Liberation War principle – secularism,” he said.

Quader said there is no compromise on the question of Liberation War spirit and principles of the independence.
