Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, registrar of the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH), has been placed on a two-day remand in a case filed over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on Tuesday after hearing on a remand petition filed by police.

Adabor police inspector (operation) Farooque Mollah filed the petition seeking 10 days remand for Dr Mamun.

Earlier in the morning, Tejgaon police arrested Dr Mamun from his house in the city.

MP Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon) Harun-Ur-Rashid said  Dr Mamun's name came from the statements given by the accused during interrogation.

He said instead of giving ASP Shipon any treatment at NIMH, Dr Mamun referred ASP Shipon to Mind Aid Hospital soon after his admission.

Anisul Karim Shipon , the assistant commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police's traffic department, was taken to Mind Aid Hospital in city's Adabor area around 11:45am on Monday for treatment. But, he died soon after admission in the hospital.

Later, a video of beating Anisul Karim Shipon in the Aggressive Management Room of Mind Aid Hospital has gone viral on social media.

The victim's father Faizuddin Ahmed lodged a murder case with Adabor Police Station early Tuesday accusing some 15 people.
