Rayhan murder: SI Akbar sent to jail after remand



A court in Sylhet on Tuesday sent Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, suspended sub-inspector of Bandarbazar Police Outpost, to jail in a case filed over Rayhan Ahmed murder.

Sylhet's Chief Metropolitan Judge Abul Kashem passed the order after Akbar was produced ending his seven-day remand.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) confirmed the matter.

Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Qashem placed Akbar Hossain on a seven-day remand in the case on November 10.

The police officer was arrested from Dona border under Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet on November 9. Later, he was handed over to the PBI at night.

On October 11, 34-year-old Rayhan Ahmed, a resident of Akhalia in Sylhet city, died in custody of Bandarbazar Police Outpost on October 11.

The next day, Raihan's wife Tahmina Akhter filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act.

Later, four people, including SI Akbar, also the in-charge of the outpost, were suspended and three others were withdrawn. Since then, SI Akbar had been on run.
