A Dhaka court on Sunday rejected the bail petition of suspended councilor Erfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahidul Mollah in an arms case.

Dhaka  Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessi passed the order after hearing the case.
Lawyer Sree Pran Nath filed the bail prayer.

On Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam sent Erfan Selim, also son of Awami League leader Haji Salim, and his bodyguard to jail in arms and drug cases after ending their five-day remand.

Earlier on October 27, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed four cases under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act against Erfan and Zahid.

On the night of October 25, the accused allegedly beaten and threatened Bangladesh Navy's Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan.

The following morning, the victim filed an attempt to murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station mentioning the names of Haji Salim MP's son Erfan Salim, AB Siddique Dipu, Md Jahid and Mizanur Rahman.

On the same day, a mobile court of RAB launched a raid at 'Chan Sardar Dada Bari' in city's Chawkbazar.

Following the raid, the RAB mobile court jailed Erfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahid for one year for keeping illegal walkie-talkies and liquor.

Later, they were sent to the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

In the evening, the RAB's Legal and Media Wing's chief Lt Col Ashique Billah told journalists that a  foreign-made pistol without license, a one-barrel gun, a briefcase, liquor and Yaba pills were seized from Erfan Salim's house. Besides, 38 to 40 different types of walkie-talkies were seized from there which are generally used by law enforcing and security agencies.

Ashique Billah further said that they recovered bullets, a handcuff, a drone and three very high security (VHS) sets. Those were a modern version of walkie-talkies.
