A nine-year-old girl was tortured by a group of men at Bakerganj upazila in Barishal district for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
Injured Jui Akter is now undergoing treatment Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH).
Police, however, arrested three following a case filed with Bakerganj Police Station by the victim’s father Bashir Hawlader.
Victim’s family sources said the victim was playing in the yard of her maternal uncle’s home at Nilganj area in the upazila on Thursday late afternoon.
At one point, neighbouring Sail, son of local influential Kabir Chowdhury, and his friends picked up Jui and took her into a bathroom, bringing the allegation of stealing a mobile phone.
Later, they brutally beat the girl, poured water on her and tried to sexually assault her there, alleged victim’s family members.
She was, first, taken to local Upazila Health Complex and, later, to SBMCH on Friday evening.
