The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Beximco Pharmaceuticals and the Serum Institute of India (SII) to get three crore shots of Covid-19 vaccines.
The tripatriate MoU was signed at the Health Ministry's conference room in Dhaka on Thursday in the presence of Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Indian High Commissioner Vikram K. Doraiswami and and Managing Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Nazmul Hassan Papon.
“The SII will sell three crore doses of the vaccine to Bangladesh in the first phase. The vaccine will be safe for the human body as it was proved effective," said the minister after the signing porgramme.
“Some 1.5 crore people can be vaccinated with the medicine as each requires two doses. The second shot will be given 28 days apart,” he added.
The process to bring Oxford/Astrazeneca Vaccine will start in January next, informed the minister.
Serum Institute will supply Bangladesh with the vaccine at the same price they would procure.
