The nation observed the Jail Killing Day on Tuesday with due solemnity.
On November 3, 1975, four national leaders and heroes of the country’s Liberation War -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman -- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.
Companyganj Upazila Awami League holds a milad and doa mahfil at its office in memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders. Upazila Awami League president Khijir Hayat Khan was present.
The four leaders played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile that led the Liberation War of 1971 with Syed Nazrul Islam as the acting president, Tajuddin Ahmad as the prime minister, Mansur Ali as the finance minister and AHM Qamruzzaman as the home, relief and rehabilitation minister.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.
Ruling Awami League and its associate bodies and other political parties have chalked out various programmes to mark the day.
Meanwhile, the Jail Killing Day was observed in different parts of the country with due solemnity.
In observance of the Jail Killing Day, a discussion and doa mahfil were held in Munshiganj. The discussion was held at the Krishi Bank premises on the main throughfare of the town. The ruling Awami League leaders and activists joined the discussion with processions from different areas in Munshiganj.
Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, local MP and Liberation War Affairs of the AL central committee attended the discussion as the chief guest.
The Jail Killing Day was observed at Companyganj in Noakhali district with due solemnity. A milad and doa mahfil were arranged at the office of Companyganj Upazila Awami League in memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders. Upazila Awami League president Khijir Hayat Khan, Upazila Jubo League president Azam Pasha Rumel, Upazila Chhatra League president Nazim Uddin Munna, among others, were present. Principal Abdullah Al Mamun conducted the doa.
Our Rajshahi Correspondent reports: Paying rich tribute to the four national leaders, the mournful Jail Killing Day was observed in Rajshahi city.
City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its associate organisations observed the day through various programmes paying due homage to the martyred.
Marking the day, scores of wreaths were placed on the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, in the city's Kadirganj family graveyard, besides mourning rallies and garlanding of portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders at Awami League party office. Both the units accompanied by the associate organizations brought out a mournful rally from in front of the party office and placed wreaths at the grave.
Apart from this, various government, semi-government and autonomous organisations also placed wreaths in the morning.
Among others, City unit Awami League president and mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and other front-ranking leaders were present at the rally.
AL city unit organised a discussion at the party office to mark the day. In observance of the day, Awami League arranged Quran Khwani, Doa Mahfil and feeding of destitute at all 30 wards of the city.
In observance of the Jail Killing Day, a discussion was held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture University in Gazipur. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Giasuddin Mia attended the discussion as chief guest, while Treasurer Prof Tofail Ahmed as special guest. In their speeches, they recalled eventful lives of four national leaders and their contributions to the War of Liberation in 1971.
Ziaur Rahman Rintu from Chowgacha, Jashore: In observance of the Jail Killing Day, a discussion was held and a mourning procession at Chowgacha in Jashore. Chowgacha Upazila Swecchasebak League organised the discussion and mourning rally. Starting from the upazila parishad premises, the rally later ended at Muktijoddha Vaskorjya premises parading important throughfares in the upazila. Chowgacha Upazila Swecchasebak League convener and Chowgacha Press Club president Ziaur Rahman Rintu led the mourning rally.
Chowgacha Upazila AL member and Chowgacha Poura Mayor Noor Uddin Al Mamun Himel, Upazila AL organising secretary Humayun Kabir Sohel, Upazila AL member Ashraful Alam, Chowgacha Press Club general secretary Omedul Islam, Upazila Swecchasebak League joint convener Towhidul Islam Bakul and Pourasava Panel Mayor Shahinur Rahman Shahin, among others, joined the rally.
