Rayhan murder: Suspended ASI arrested

A team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Wednesday night arrested suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Asheq Elahi in a case filed over Rayhan Ahmed murder.
The PBI inspector Mahidul Islam nabbed the ASI from Sylhet Police Lines at night.
Additional deputy police commissioner BM Ashraf Ullah Taher confirmed the news.
Earlier, two other police members Titu Chandra Das and Harun-or-Rashid have been taken to a five-day remand after arrest.
On October 15, the PBI team exhumed Rayhan Ahmed's body from Panchayet Graveyard in Akhalia area in Sylhey city for reinvesigation.
The 34-year-old Rayhan, a resident of Akhalia in Sylhet city, allegedly died of torture under police custody on October 11.
The victim's family alleged that Rayhan was beaten to death under police custody after police detained him. But, police claimed angry mob had beaten Rayhan to death suspecting him as a robber.
Rayhan's widow Tahmina Akter Tonni filed the murder case with Kotwali Police Station.
The case was handed over to the PBI on October 13 according to the directives of the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
On October 12, four police personnel, including SI Akbar, were suspended while three others withdrawn following the death of Rayhan.
