A
court in Rajshahi has acquitted 13 people in a case filed over murder
of Dipankar Saha, who was brutally beaten to death in Hamirkutsa camp
under the leadership of the then JMB leader Bangla Bhai in Bagmara
upazila in 2004.
District special judge of Court-1 Mst Ismat Ara acquitted all the accused on Wednesday afternoon
as allegations against them were not proved, said public prosecutor
Shafiqul Islam.
Out of the total 18 accused,
the chief of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
(JMB) Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhaihad already been executed in other murder cases while four more
accused died during the 16-year-long trial of the case.
Meanwhile, the other 13 were acquitted where 12 were present and another was tried in absentia.
According
to the case statement, Dipankar Saha was taken to a torture cell of
terrorist Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai on 29 April 2004 where he was
beaten dead.
Dipankar's father Dwijendranath Saha filed a murder case with Bagmara Police Station the same day.
After the deposition of 37 witnesses, they were acquitted as the witnesses could not identify them, said the public prosecutor.
