Cops attacked during drive against illegal hilsa catching
Two teams of law enforcers came under attack during their drives against illegal hilsa catching at Lalmohan upazila in Bhola district on Wednesday morning.
The incidents took place at Batirkhal area of the river Meghna and Debirchar area of the river Tetulia.
Upazila fisheries officer Sudipta Mishra said a team of law enforcers, led by him, conducted a drive at Batirkhal area around 10am.
Later, a group of fishermen launched an attack with sticks and threw brick chips on the team that left constable Fahad critically injured.
The injured was rushed to Bhola Sadar Hospital.
The team seized two trawlers and detained six fishermen.
The fisheries officer filed a case against eight persons with naming them and some others unnamed.
Meanwhile, another team, led by magistrate Saleh Ahmed, at Debirchar area around 11:30 am was also came under attack. Police fired one round of bullet at the directive of the magistrate.
Five fishermen were arrested and, later, conducting mobile court, two were sentenced one year in jail and three others fined Tk 5,000 each.
