Elderly woman burnt alive in Natore fire

An octogenarian woman was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at her house in Baraigram upazila of Natore district early Wednesday.

Deceased Ranjita Bewa, 80, was a resident of Talsho village in the upazila.

Local UP member Abu Sayeed said Ranjita alongwith her grandson Ramjan Ali, 13, went to sleep at night after taking dinner.

Suddenly, the fire broke out at the house mysteriously at about 3:00am. Ramjan went out of the house with her grandmother and started screaming.

Hearing screams, local people rushed there and got busy to douse the fire.

Meanwhile, Ranjita again entered the house to bring her saved money and valuables.

After dousing the fire, the locals found her dead inside the house.

Baraigram Police Station officer in-charge Anwarul Haque said being informed police recovered the body.

The body was sent to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy as a fire incident took place in the house previously.

Legal action will be taken once the autopsy is done, the OC added.

However, an allegation had been raised earlier against a neighbour youth of setting the house on fire. Later, the villagers reconciled the matter through an arbitration.
