Lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim’s car driver Mizanur Rahman has been on one-day remand in a case filed for attacking Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Sunday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Mohammad Noman passed the order on Monday in response to five-day remand appeal filed by investigating officer of the case.
Earlier, IO Ashfaq Rajib Hassan produced the accused before the court and sought five-day remand for interrogation.
Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station against four named accused, including Mohammad Erfan Salim, son of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim, and 2-3 unnamed persons early hours of Monday.
On Sunday night, Haji Salim’s son and three others beat up Wasif getting down from their car in capital's Dhanmondi area.
The navy officer stood before the car giving his identity as it hit his bike before.
A video footage of the incident was circulated on social media where it was found that the navy official’s teeth were broke down during the attack.
The victim filed a general diary with Dhanmondi Police Station at night.
In the GD, Wasif alleged that he and his wife were riding on the motorcycle. Suddenly, a government car holding a nameplate 'Lawmaker' hit his motorbike near Kalabagan signal.
He stood before the car after parking his motorbike on the road. The four people then used abbusive words and started beating Wasif. They also assaulted his wife and threatened to kill Wasif and his wife, he alleged.
Later, the four left the scene leaving the car behind as people started to gather around.
During the incident the member of the parliament was not present.
