Dhaka University's Criminology dept Professor Zia Rahman has been sued for his comment over 'Assalamu Alaikum' and 'Allah Hafez' in a recent television talk show.

Mahbub Alam, editor of monthly Al Bayynat and Daily Al Ihsan, filed a case while lawyer Imrul Hasan filed another Digital Security Act.

Both the cases were filed with the court of Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain on Sunday.

According to the case statement, Zia Rahman reportedly hurt religious sentiment of Muslims through his statement at a television talk-show on 22 October.

Earlier on Thursday, Supreme Court lawyer M Sheikh Omar Sharif on behalf of Mahbub Alam served legal notice to Dr Zia Rahman calling upon him to seek apology after withdrawing his statement.

Prof Zia in a recent television talk show commented that pronouncing 'Assalamu Alaikum' and 'Allah Hafez' in correct manner is associated with militancy.
