Maha Ashtami celebrated, Maha Nabami Sunday

The Maha Ashtami of Durga Puja was celebrated across the country on Saturday, while Maha Nabami will be celebrated today (Sunday).
The five-day long festival 'Sharadiyo Durgotsav' which started on October 21 will conclude on Monday with the immersion of Durga idol on Vijaya Dashmi day.
More than 31,000 temporary and permanent mandaps in Bangladesh are thronged by the devotees to offer prayer. Hundreds of mandaps have been set up in cities like Khulna, Rajshahi, Chattogram Jessore, Narayanganj, Cox Bazar in the country.
In Dhaka city alone, Durga Puja is being celebrated in more than 200 mandaps. In places like the ancient Dhakeshwari Temple in the old town, Ramkrishna Mission, Ramana park, Banani among others the Pandals have been decorated beautifully and large number of devotees are thronging the places since morning. Many of the Pandals in Dhaka are organising musical evenings today to celebrate the Puja.
In Bagherhat which is about 250 kilometres from Dhaka, the largest Mandap of the country has about 800 idols of the goddess. The mega celebration in Bagherhat known as Shikderbari Puja Mandap was started in 2011.
Strict security measures are in place in the mandaps. The Dhaka Metropolitan police has installed CCTVs and large number of police personnel have been deployed to ensure safety during the festival.
