Water transport workers have withdrawn their indefinite strike following the assurance from the employers to meet their demand of food allowance, said the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The decision was taken at a meeting between the employers and the water transport workers' leaders on Thursday.
Water transport workers enforced the indefinite strike across the country on Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, disrupting the operation of lighterage vessels and oil tankers.
Water transport workers call off strike
The meeting decided to increase the food allowance by Tk 1,000 for small ships, Tk 1,200 for medium ships (1,000 to 1,500 tonne), and Tk 1,500 for larger vessels. As a result, the workers decided to call off the strike.
At the meeting, the labor leaders urged all the water transport workers to resume work from now on maintaining discipline.
Bangladesh Water Transport Workers' Federation and Bangladesh Lighterage Workers Union had jointly called the strike.
The goods unloading operations remained halted at outer anchorage of the Chattogram Port due to the strike.

Large ships carrying imported goods from abroad to Bangladesh were stranded at Chattogram Port during the strike.
