Rohingya 'drug trader' killed in gunfight with BGB
A suspected Rohingya drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district early Wednesday.
Deceased Md Adham, 30, was a resident of Tambru Konapara Rohingya camp.
Acting on information that a big consignment of Yaba pills will be smuggled through Tumbru Baishfari border area from Myanmar, a team of BGB took position there, said Cox's Bazar BGB-34 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed.
As a group of 10-12 people were coming from Myanmar, the team challenged them, he added.
Sensing the presence of the team, the gang opened fire on the BGB men, forcing the team to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gun battle.
Later, the team rescued bullet-injured Adham to local Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
