BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the Election Commission is implementing the agenda of Awami League, and it is working as an associate body of the ruling party. "So, it is not possible for this subservient EC to hold a free, fair, impartial and credible elections anymore," he said.

He was addressing a press conference at his house at Kalibari in Thakurgaon district on Tuesday afternoon.
Fakhrul alleged that the Awami League's thugs occupied all the polling centres with the help of administration in the recent by-elections driving out the BNP agents. They also did the same thing in the previous by-polls. "It again proves that a free, fair and credible election under the present illegitimate government," he said.

The BNP leader observed that the entire electoral system of Bangladesh has collapsed. "The present Election Commission and the fascist government are totally responsible for it," he said.

Fakhrul said BNP participated the by-election as it believes in democracy. "BNP believes in changing the power through election," he said.

Reiterating his call to launch a greater movement to unseat the government from power, the BNP Secretary General said his party will hold demonstration in the district towns across the country on Wednesday and at upazila and union parishads protesting against the widespread rigging in the by-election.

Replying to a query, he said BNP wants to change this system with the help of people.

Thakurgaon District BNP leaders Mirza Faisal Amin, Al Mamun and Paigam Ali, among others.
