Tamim XI faces off Nazmul XI in ‘do or die’ match

With an aim to play the final of the BCB President’s Cup, Tamim XI will take on Nazmul XI in the sixth and last group match of the tournament at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

The match starts at 1.30 PM and will be streamed live on BCB’s facebook page and Youtube Channel. Private television Gazi TV will also telecast the match live.

A defeat against Nazmul XI would eliminate Tamim XI from the race of the final straightway. No equation will be needed in case of Tamim XI’s defeat but a victory of the Tamim Iqbal-led side would mean that every three teams finish the group phase with two wins. In that case, net-run-rate will determine the two finalists of the tournament.

The complex equation however made the match an absolutely crucial game.

Tamim XI so far played three matches—losing two and winning one. Their both losses came against Mahmudullah XI—while they conceded a five-wicket defeat to Mahmudullah XI in the first match, in the return-leg match, they tasted a four-wicket defeat.

They however beat Nazmul XI by 42 runs to seal their only victory so far.

Nazmul XI also played three matches and while they won both of their matches against Mahmudullah XI, they lost their only match to Tamim XI. They want to fix their record right against Tamim XI.

Tamim XI put up a shaky batting performance in the first match, being all out for 106 runs and conceded a five-wicket defeat to Mahmudullah XI. They regrouped well and scored 221-9 in the second game against Nazmul XI. Tamim XI’s bowlers also came up with fire in every game they played. Specially their pacers young Shoriful Islam and experienced Mustafizur Rahman and Saifuddin showed they have the capability to tear apart any batting line up.

They also scored 221-8 in the third game but couldn’t win it as Mahmudullah XI captain Mahmudullah Riyad led the side from the front to win it for his side.

Nazmul XI chased down Mahmudullah XI’s 196 runs in the first match with utmost ease to seal four wickets victory before losing to Tamim XI by 42 runs.

They however came back strongly in the third match and thanks to Afif Hossain’s 98 runs piled up 264-8, tournament’s highest score against Mahmudullah XI in the return-leg match. Their bowlers later shot the opponent out for 133 runs to seal a gigantic 131 runs victory for the side.

Mahmudullah XI so far had crossed 200 runs figure only once in the tournament and thereby as per net run rate, they remain behind the two oppositions.
