Six fishermen jailed in Narayanganj



A mobile court in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Sunday sentenced six fishermen to one week in jail for fishing in the River Meghna despite the ongoing ban.

Imran, Ibrahim, Rahed, Ramiz, Habibur and Masud were arrested from Char Kishoreganj area under Shambhupura union this morning.

Upazila senior fisheries officer Jasmine Akter said catching of fish was banned for 22 days from October 14.  During the period, catching, supplying and stocking hilsa are prohibited.

Upazila assistant commissioner (land) Al Mamun awarded the punishment by conducting a mobile court.





Around 1.5 lakh net was also seized and, later, burnt.
