BNP's half-day hartal in Naogaon-6 underway peacefully

A half-day hartal, enforced by BNP, in Atrai and Raninagar upazilas of Naogaon district is underway peacefully on Sunday morning centering Saturday's election.

Awami League candidate Alhaj Anwar Hossain Helal won Saturday’s by-poll in Nagaon-6 constituency by getting 1,05,502 votes while BNP candidate Alhaj Sheikh Md Rezaul Islam Reju got 4,650.

BNP boycotted the election, saying the election a farce and claimed the Awami League rigged the votes through EVM method.

They, later, called a half-day hartal in the upazilas.

However, no procession or picketing in support of the hartal and effect of it were seen in the areas this morning.

Everything is normal as shops, hat-bazar and shopping malls remained open.

Additional police were deployed at different points, said superintendent of police Abdul Mannan Mia.
