Ban on catching, selling hilsa starts



A 22-day ban on catching and selling hilsa began on Wednesday which will continue to November 4.

The ban has came into effect from midnight to protect mother hilsa for safe breeding.
River police, Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries will jointly implement the hilsa protection campaign at 152 upazilas of 36 districts of the country.

During the ban, the government has taken steps to distribute 20kg rice per day to each of the 5.70 lakh families of the affected fishermen in the country.
