Two activists of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were killed and an Army man was injured in exchange of fire in Rangamati district on Tuesday afternoon.
One of deceased was identified as Rocket Chakma, Rangamati Police Super Md Alamgir Kabir (PPM) confirmed.
Members of UPDF opened fire on a patrol team of Army at Burighat Rauf Tila area of Naniarchar in the district around 5:30 pm, forcing the team to fire back in self-defence.
According to the source, the patrol team of Army conducted a drive in the area to detain armed extortionists.
Sensing the presence of Army, the gang opened fire on them which triggered a gunfight.
Later, an AK-22 SMG automatic rifle was recovered from the spot.
Shabuddin, an army man, suffered bullet injury on his left shoulder.
He was flown to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from Rangamati around 7:00pm.
