The government has decided to take legal actions against those who are engaged in spreading propaganda on social media platforms staying at home and abroad.

The warning was issued in a circular by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

The circular said the decision has been made in a bid to "maintain stability, law and order in the country as well as uphold the public interest".

"It has been found that false, fabricated, misleading and instigating statements regarding the government, public representatives, army officials, policemen and members of other law enforcement agencies are being circulated on social media," the circular said.

Besides, it said false and baseless information is being spread with a view to misguiding the security forces.

Such activities have put the prevailing peaceful environment of the country in jeopardy, the circular added.
