Rashid Hider, prominent writer and former Bangla Academy director, passed away at his residence in the capital on Tuesday morning. He was 80.
His brother Arif Haider said Rashid Hider, also a liberation researcher, had been suffering from old age complications for a long time. He breathed his last around 8:30am.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of the prominent writer.
In a condolence message, the Premier said Rashid Haider will be remembered for his research works on the great Liberation War and his contributions to the Bengali literature.
Born in July 15, 1941, Rashid Haider's full name was Sheikh Faysal Abdur Rashid Mohammad Ziauddin Haider. He received Ekushey Padak in 2014 as recognition of work.
His notable works are Khancay (Inside the Cage, 1975), Nashta Josnay Ekon Aranya (What Forest is this in the Spoilt Moonlight, 1982), Sadh Ahlad (Yearnings, 1985), Andha Kathamala (Blind Words, 1987), Asamabriksha (Unequal Trees, 19897) and Mabuhai (1988).
