"The progressive role of the force reminds us about characters of ‘people's police' as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the prime minister's desired 'people-friendly police'", he told an opinion-sharing meeting at Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Thursday.
The home minister said the police force always stood beside the people during any crisis moment in the country. The constructive role of the force began with the crackdown on militancy.
He said: "We feel proud now when we see the force's citizen service oriented mentality which is different than any time in the past."
The meeting also discussed about decentralization of police
services to reach the intensive policing services to people's
doorsteps.
With Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benzir Ahmed in the chair, Public Security Division Senior Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Additional Secretary Dr Md Harun-ar-Rashid Biswas and Additional IGPs and other senior police officials attended the meeting.
The meeting also discussed about the projects to construct quality schools at the divisional level for the kids of the police force.
Bangladesh Police have already proved their skills and capacity to control crimes, the senior secretary said. The home ministry is working to ensure welfare of the police force according to instructions of the prime minister, he added.
