'Daughter of Paddy' Tamal Lata Aditya passes away

Dr. Tamal Lata Aditya, Director of Research at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), died of heart attack. She was 52.
She died at about 11:45pm on Wednesday.
BRRI Director-General Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir expressed profound shock and grief at the death of her.
He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr. Tamal Lata Aditya and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Rice scientist Dr. Tamal Lata Aditya joined the BRRI in 1994. She was directly involved in the development of a total of 15 high-yielding varieties of rice at the BRRI till her death.
Besides, she was involved in the process of developing several other high-yielding varieties of rice. She was known as 'Dhan Kanya' (Daughter of Paddy) for her outstanding contributions to the development of high-yielding varieties of rice at the BRRI.
She left behind her physician husband, two sons, relatives, friends and well wishers to mourn her death.
Dr. Tamal Lata Aditya was born at village Ratneshwarpur under Monirampur upazila in Jashore district on 31 October 1967. Her father was late Mrityunjoy Aditya and mother Sunity Rani Aditya.
After passing the SSC and HSC examinations in first division in 1983 and 1985 respectively, she obtained B.Sc (Hons) and M.S degrees in Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 1993 and 1996. Then she went University of London in the UK and obtained Ph.D in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology.
