Teenager tortured on cattle theft charges

A teenage boy has been tortured by tying with a tree at Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district suspecting him as a cattle lifter.

Victim Syed Ahmed, 15, is the son of Zakir Hossain of Pashchim Sonarpara area under Jaliapalong union in the upazila.

The incident created a sensation when a video went viral on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the victim's elder sister Jobaida Begum lodged a case with Ukhiya Police Station on Saturday against Jalal Ahmed of the area and three others in this connection.

Jobaida said Jalal took his brother from Sonarpara Bazar to his house on Friday night bringing allegation of cattle lifting. He tied up the boy with a tree and tortured him whole the night

They also forced to wear him a garland of shoes and hit him in the head while shaving his head with a spade, she added.

Confirming the incident, local union parishad member Mohammad Rafique Ullah said the boy was rescued and admitted to a hospital.

However, Jalal said he did this to give lesson to others so that no more incident of cattle lifting takes place in the area.

The police station officer in-charge Monjur Morshed said police received a complaint in this regard and they were investigating the matter.
