The Narayanganj district administration has imposed Section 144 in the city as Hefajat-e-Islam and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
called separate meetings at the same time.
The restriction will remain in force from 6:00 am on Sunday until further order.
Narayanganj deputy commissioner Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.
He said that the restriction has been imposed from Narayanganj city Corporation Bhaban to Chashara Shaheed Minar, 300-bed hospital and adjacent areas.
The meetings have been called over arrest of one Alauddin Jihadi for making derogatory comment against late Hefajat Ameer Allama Ahmed Shafi.
Any kind of gathering, procession, meeting, rally, carrying any kind of weapons, suspicious movement is prohibited in the areas brought under section 144.
Moreover, three executive magistrates have been assigned to perform their duties in No 2 Railgate, Shaheed Minar and Grindlays Bank crossing.
Earlier on Saturday night, high officials of the district police held separate meetings with the leaders of the two Islamist parties and informed them that no gathering or unruly conduct is allowed.
