Tigers get three-day break from practice

Amid the uncertainty over the Sri Lanka tour, national players get three days break from the practice as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will get a clear picture about the tour in these days.

However, no cricketer can go home with his family even if he does not practice. These three days the team will have to stay in the biosecure bubble at the hotel.
Since Saturday and Sunday are public holidays in Sri Lanka, BCB are hoping to know the final decision on Monday or Tuesday.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley de Silva said Thursday that Bangladesh need to follow the strict health guidelines provided by the Sri Lanka Covid-19 Task Force, otherwise the proposed three-match Test series could be postponed.

But BCB wanted to know it in written form after which they will respond about it, said BCB Cricket Operations chairman Akram Khan.

“We have not received any official letter or mail. If nothing comes officially, I can’t say anything about what is happening outside,” Akram said.

“I think they [SLC] are also hopeful about the tour. Since Saturday and Sunday are public holidays in Sri Lanka, hopefully they will let us know within Monday or Tuesday about the tour.”

Akram went on to say: “Whatever it is, we are not going to Sri Lanka tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll leave the country on October 7th to 10th if everything remains positive.”

If the tour unfortunately doesn’t happen, Bangladesh have the plan B, said Akram.

“If the tour doesn’t happen, our president said that we’ll start domestic cricket. So we have plan B. We are ready to face any situation and we are not bothered about it. Because we have a set plan as to what to do, if something doesn’t happen.”
