MC College gangrape: Probe body formed, two guards suspended

A three-member probe committee has been formed with Prof Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, a teacher of the Department of Mathematics of the MC College, as convener to probe the gangrape at Sylhet MC College hostel, said Principal Saleh Ahmed.
Two other members of the committee are Associate Professor Jibon Krishna of the Department of Political Science (Superintendent of the Srikanta Hostel) and another hostel super Jamal Uddin. The committee has been asked to submit report within one week.
On the other hand, two guards of the hostel have been suspended. Darwan Rasel Mia and Chowkidar Sabuj Ahmed Ruhan were suspended for "negligence in duty." They were appointed on master-role.
MC College principal Saleh Ahmed.said the decisions were taken at a meeting of the acdemic council of the college.
A young woman became the victim of gang rape when she along with her husband went MC College in Sylhet on Friday afternoon. The incident happened at the college hostel at Tilagarh area at about 9:30pm. The woman was forcibly picked up from the campus and taken to the hostel where she was raped by ruling Awami League student wing's members.
Later, the victim's husband filed a case with Shahporan Police Station being the complainant. Six leaders and activists of Bagladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and three others were implicated in the case.
The accused of the sensational rape case are MC College Chhatra League leader M Saifur Rahman, Master's student of the Department of English Shah Md Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tareque Ahmed, Arjun Laskar, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum. The accused Tareque and Rabiul are the outsiders, while the rest four are the MC College students.
