World Rivers Day observed

The Rivers Day Observation Council, Bangladesh has observed The World Rivers Day.

The theme of this year's day is 'Pollution Free River For Virus Free World,' said a press release on Saturday.

The council convener Dr Md Abdul Matin, also Executive Vice President of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA), presided over an online programme “Online March For River” and BAPA general secretary Sharif Jamil conducted the programme.

National River Protection Commission chairman Dr Muzibur Rahman Howlader inaugurated the programme while the Council member secretary Sheikh Rokon presented welcome speech.

Quoting Mark Angelo, the founder of The World River Day, Matin said the highest number of programme has been observed around the world amid COVID-19. As a result, the condition of the world's rivers is much better now than in the past.

Besides, representatives of various organizations have addressed the programme. River workers from all over the country participated in this online march.
