Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is ready to approve whatever the number of flights will require to carry the stranded expatriate Bangladeshis to Saudi Arabia.

"We're ready to approve whatever the number of flights Saudi Airlines requires for the return of stranded Bangladeshi expatriates to Saudi Arabia," said CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshall Mohammad Mofidur Rahman while speaking at a public hearing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Mofidur Rahman said, “Saudi Arabian Airlines sought approval of the CAAB two weeks ago, and we gave approval on condition that the Bangladesh airlines will be able to operate flights to that country. We have learnt that only those who have valid Iqamas (work permits) will be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia. None will be able to go there on visit visas or Umrah visas. We have also learnt that Bangladesh Biman has also been given approval of operating chartered flights only, not commercial flights."

"Since the Bangladesh Biman was not given approval, many demanded of cancelling permission of operating flights by Saudi Arabian Airlines. But, the CAAB didn't cancel permission for operating flights by Saudi Arabian Airlines. We discussed how Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines can operate flights smoothly to ensure the departure of the Bangladeshi expatriates to Saudi Arabia," he said.

The CAAB chairman said, "We're trying so that the Biman Bangladesh Airlines can operate commercial lights to Saudi Arabia. We have learnt from Biman that it is yet to receive permission to operate flights to Saudi Arabia. We'll extend all-out cooperation. We've talked to our ambassador to Saudi Arabia."

Asked about charging high fares from Saudi Arabia-bound passengers, Mofidur Rahman said there are some local agencies which have raised the fares blocking the tickets. They are trying to do harm to our expatriate Bangladeshis. We'll try to find them out with the help of our law enforcing agencies.
