CHATTOGRAM, Sept 19: Thousands of devotees, followers, and mourners bade farewell to Hefajat-e Islam Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi on Saturday with tears and grave shock. He was laid to rest at the graveyard adjacent to the mosque of Darul Ulum Muinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari of Chattogram at around 2.30 pm where he worked as a teacher and Director General for more than 80 years. Lacs of devotees, followers and the mourners of all strata of life took part in the namaj-e-janaja held on the Madrasa premises after johr prayers at around 2 pm. The funeral congregation stretched over several square kilometres surrounding the madrasa and Hathazari Town area held with more than five lacs Musallees. The funeral congregation was led by his elder son Moulana Muhammad Yusuf. The innumerable numbers of his followers and mourners have throng at the janaja venue since the morning on Saturday who came from every nook and corner of the country.
The law enforcing agencies and the local administrations have worked relentlessly to maintain law and order situation in the funeral congregation. In this connection, a number of 10 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) accompanied by a good numbers of police have been deployed in four Upazilas of the district including Hathazari to ensure smooth completion of the namaj-e-janaza of Hefajat-e Islam Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.
