Allama Shafi hospitalised, medical board formed

Allama Ahmed Shafi, the Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, was hospitalised on Thursday night, soon after his resignation from the post of Director General of Hathazari Darul Ulum Muinul Islam Madrasa.
He has been kept in the ICU of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Earlier on Thursday night, Shafi was admitted to the hospital as he was feeling unwell.
Dr Aftabul Islam, deputy director of the CMCH, told media that a medical board has been formed for Allama Shafi's treatment.
The 105-year-old spiritual leader has also been suffering from various old age complications, he added.
Earlier on Thursday night, Allama Shafi voluntarily resigned from his post amid students' protests.
He made the decision at the Shura Committee meeting of the Hathazari Madrasa that concluded at about 11:00pm .
