BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said India has stopped onion export to Bangladesh in response to the gift of Hilsa given to them.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka on Wednesday, he said India stopped export of onion to Bangladesh immediately after exporting Hilsa to that country. As the news reached Bangladesh, the local masterminds of syndicate have started playing their games. Dishonest traders have lowered the selling of onion though there is adequate stock of onion in the country. As a result, an acute crisis of onion has arisen in the market. This is an artificial crisis.
The BNP leader alleged that a government is now in power which was not elected by people's votes. They don't bother about the sufferings of people. Rather, they are busy with making money through corruption and siphoning of that money abroad. They have accumulated huge wealth through plundering and looting. They don't care whether people die or remain alive. A darkness has fallen over the country during the reign of present government. The government couldn't prove yet that they are working for people.
Rizvi said low income group of people have been facing a suffocating situation due to the constant rise in prices of essentials including onion. Prices of onion is rising every day. Each kilogram of onion was sold at Tk 30-40 a week ago. Even the prices of onion were Tk 50-55 per kg two days ago. But, it was sold at Tk 100 a kg on Wednesday.
"People have been suffering due to the growing rise in prices of essentials. Now, the unimaginable price hike of onion has aggravated their sufferings. It's a failure of an illegal government which came to power without people's votes. The syndicates backed by the ruling party are behind the onion price hike in the market. The nexus between importers and traders is responsible for onion price hike in the market. This anti-people government has been snatching away the peace from the daily lives of people one after another," he said.
