Ex-upazila BCL president among 3 held
Naogaon's Mohadevpur upazila unit Chhatra League (BCL) president Raju Ahmed and two activists have been arrested in a case filed over assaulting a businessman and demanding extortion.
The two other activists are Nayan Hossain,25, and Imran Muhuri.
They were arrested from Ashkona in capital Dhaka around 8pm on Tuesday, police confirmed.
Mohadevpur Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said Raju Ahmed,30, alnog with his associates beat up Sohel Rana, proprietor of RFL Vigo show room, at his shop in bus stand area in the upazila headquarters on September 5.
The next day, Sohel Rana filed an extortion case with the police station accusing Raju, Nayan and 6/7 others.
The accused went into hiding after filing of the case.
After arrest, they were produced before court on Wednesday morning, said the OC.
The CC camera footage of assaulting the businessman went viral in social media platform facebook.
Later, district unit BCL temporarily expelled Raju Ahmed from the organisation.
District BCL president Sabbir Rahman told media that Raju was served show cause notice on September 10 and was asked to reply within three days.
As he did not reply during the stipulated time, he has been temporarily expelled from the organisation, Sabbir said adding they have put forward a recommendation to the central committee over Raju's permanent expulsion.
