Onion price rises by Tk 30 per kg in Joypurhat
Onion price has increased by Tk 25-30 per kilogram at kitchen markets in Joypurhat district following India's ban on onion export.
The price of onions hiked suddenly in the retail markets of the district as the news of the ban on onion export by the Indian government spread here.
Indian onions are being sold at Tk 70-75 which were Tk 45-50 per kg two days ago while local onions are being sold at Tk 90-100 which were earlier at Tk 65-70 per kg, reports our local correspondent visiting different markets in the district town.
However, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) on Sunday started selling onions at Tk 30 per kg to keep the onion market stable.
Meanwhile, the district deputy commissioner Md Shariful Islam said the onions trader have been given some instructions and markets are being monitored to keep the onion market under control.
Strict action will be taken if anyone tries to destabilise the onion market, he added.
