On the occasion of holy Durga Puja, the second consignment of 63 metric tonnes, out of a total of 1,450 metric tonnes of Hilsa fish was exported to India on Tuesday.
The consignment entered the Petrapole land port by eight trucks through Benapole land port on completion of all the formalities on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier on Monday, 12 metric tonnes of Hilsa entered by two trucks under the first consignment.
Benapole Customs assistant revenue officer Shamim Hossain said the Hilsa is being exported to India at 10 dollar per kilogram under the duty-free facility.
It is learnt that the government suspended export of Hilsa to India after 2012 on the ground of drastic fall in catches of Hilsa. However, Bangladesh exported 500 metric tonnes of Hilsa to India on the occasion of Durga Puja last year as part of friendly relation with the neighbouring country.
This year the Bangladesh government also has given permission to export 1,450 metric tonnes of Hilsa to the West Bengal on the occasion of Durga Puja. Nine Bangladeshi exporters have received the opportunities to export Hilsa to India.
According to the conditions of the Ministry of Commerce, the rest of the exporters will have to export the rest of the Hilsa by October 10.
