Prices of onion have shot up once again in the city markets after India suspended export from Monday.

The price of the essential cooking item rose by Tk 25-30 per kg and is now being sold at Tk 95-100 per kg in different city kitchen markets.

But two days ago, the onions were sold at Tk 60-70 per kg depending on size and varieties.

Currently, the imported onions are being sold at Tk 80 per kg, after the prices increased by Tk 30 per kg in a day.

However, prices of garlic and green chilli have remained unchanged at Tk 90-100 and Tk 160-180 per kg respectively.

Meanwhile, prices of ginger have increased by Tk 10 per kg to Tk 240-250.

Expressing anger, buyers said the market has had enough stock, but the prices have been shot up by a syndicate.

On the other hand, the sellers said ban on onion export by India has affected the market.
