Four people died in separate incidents of drowning and electrocution at Hatia and Subarnachar upazilas in Noakhali district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Aklima Akter, 22, wife of Sohrab Hossain, a resident of Myakparshan village in Hatia, and her two-year-old daughter Mariam Akter Salma; Laiba Jahan, 5, daughter of Dilal Mia, of Bhuiyar Haat area in Subarnachar; and Debu Sutra Dhar, 34, of Hazipur village in Subarnachar.
Local sources said Sohrab’s wife and his minor daughter went to shower in a pond near house in the afternoon. Since then, they had been missing.
Locals spotted the floating body of Aklima in the evening and recovered it. Later, they also retrieved Mariam’s body from the pond through net around 8 pm.
Hatia Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Abul Khayer said the bodies will be handed over to family without autopsy, if there is no allegation.
Meanwhile, Laiba went out to play with local children in the afternoon and, later, did not return home.
Her body was recovered around 9 pm from a pond near home.
Debu Sutra Dhar climbed up an electric pole to fix electric wire around 7 pm. Later, he was electrocuted and fell from the pole.
He was rushed to Subarnachar Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
