An official, equivalent to the rank of additional police super, died of coronavirus infection on Saturday.
Azizur Rahman Chowdhury died on Saturday noon while he was undergoing treatment at Mugda General Hospital in Dhaka.
AIG (Media) of Police Headquarters Sohel Rana confirmed it in the evening.
He said Azizur Rahman Chowdhury was posted at the Special Branch (Political) of police. He was involved in compiling a book, titled "Secret Documents of Intelligence Branch on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman." The government gave him contractual appointment for his expertise in collecting the secret documents.
Azizur Rahman Chowdhury was born on May 1, 1959 at village Nanda Nagar under Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district. He will be buried at his family graveyard under arrangement by police, said the AIG (Media).
He left behind his wife and two sons
Azizur Rahman Chowdhury joined the Bangladesh Police on January 1, 1982. He joined the Special Branch on August 27, 2002 after working at different departments. Later, he went on special retirement on April 30, 2019.
According to the Police Headquarters, 75 police personnel have so far died being infected with Covid-19.
