Tribunal formed to decide punishment of 2 DU teachers

The committees formed by the Dhaka University (DU) authorities have found evidence in plagiarism in the research papers of two teachers.

Meanwhile, The DU Syndicate on Wednesday  set up a tribunal to decide their punishment.

DU Pro-VC (Admin) Prof Muhammad Samad confirmed media about the matter.

The accused teachers are: Samia Rahman, associate professor of Mass Communication Journalism Department, and Syed Mahfujul Haque Marjan,  lecturer of Criminology Department.

The allegation had been raised against Samia and Marjan three years ago.

Both the committees, in their investigations, have found evidence of plagiarism against the two teachers. But, they did not recommend any punishment against them.

It is alleged that Samia and Marjan in an article they co-authored had copied from pages 5, 6, 66, 68 and 119 of Edward Said's book 'Culture and Imperialism'

Earlier, allegation had been raised against both the teachers for copying French philosopher Michel Foucault’s article titled “The Subject and Power,” for their research paper.
