Explosion in mosque: Writ filed seeking Tk 50 lakh for each family

A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 50 lakh compensation for each of the victims' families who died and injured in devastating explosion in Baitus Salat Jame Masjid at Paschim Talla area in Narayanganj city.

The writ was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Taimur Alam Khondker on Sunday. The writ petitioner himself confirmed the media about it.

Presenting the news reports published in different national dailies, the petitioner pleaded to the bench to order the government paying Tk 50 lakh to the families of each of the injured and deceased persons.

Meanwhile, Fatullah Model Police Station's sub-inspector Humayun Kabir filed a murder case against unidentifed persons on Sunday morning bringing allegation of 'death of negligence.'

Fire Services and police said the explosion might have happened due to electric shortcircuit and leakage of gas in pipeline. As many as five inquiry committees have been formed by the Fire Services and Civil Defence, Narayanganj district administration, Titas Gas, DPDC and Narayanganj City Corporation. All the inquiry committees have been conducting their investigation.

A massive explosion at Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Paschim Talla area of Fatulla under Narayanganj Sadar upazila at about 8:45pm on Friday (September 4) left more than 50 people seriously injured. Of them, 37 received multiple burn injuries throughout their bodies. They were admitted to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Of the injured, 24 have already died.
