Over 200 computers stolen from BSMMU
A total of 91 more computers were stolen from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) during Eid-ul-Azha vacation.
The computers were stolen from Ekushey February Library (Central library of the university), VC Prof Dr Md Shahjahan and registrar Dr Md Nuruddin Ahmed confirmed on Sunday.
The university authorities noticed the matter of theft incident on Sunday (August 9) after reopening of the campus.
With these, more than 200 computers have been stolen from the university in four phases.
As many as 50 computers were stolen in 2017, 47 in 2018 and a good number of the others before 2017.
Assistant Security Officer Tariqul Islam said, "We have checked the CCTV footage from July 27 to August 9. Nothing found during this time. Before that, the VC visited the library on July 20 when the computers were all in place."
The incident might have occurred in any time between July 20 and July 27, he said.
Some 20 guards out of 30 were absent from July 23 without showing any specific reasons. For that, there was some security issues, Tariqul Islam added.
Prof Dr Md Shahjahan said registrar is preparing to file a case with Sadar Police Station.
Asked about previous theft incidents, he said the incident of 2018 is now under investigation by Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
