Fake C-19 Test Certificates

Dr Sabrina, 7 others charged

JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, her husband also Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury and six others were charge sheeted in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates.
On July 12, Dr Sabrina, also a cardiac surgeon at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), was suspended.
Inspector Md Liakot Ali, of Detective Branch (DB) of police and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on Wednesday to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
The other accused are JKG Executive Officer Shafiqul Islam, graphic designer Humayun Kabir Himu and four other employees - Himu's wife Tanzina Patwary, Jebunnesa Rima, Sayeed Chowdhury and Biplob Das.
The IO dropped the name of Mamunur Rashid as his involvement with the
incident was not proved.
A total of 31 prosecution witnesses were named in the charge sheet.
Of the accused, Shafiqul, Humayun and Tanzina gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates narrating their involvement in issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
In the charge sheet, the IO said the charges brought against them of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates were primarily proven and they should be brought under trial for their alleged involvement with the incident.
On June 23, Kamal Hossain, who was given a fake Covid-19 certificate from JKG Health Care, filed the case against Humayun, his wife Tanzina and several unknown people with Tejgaon Police Station in this regard.
Police later arrested the couple the same day and they confessed to their involvement in issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
Following their confessional statements, police arrested seven others including Dr Sabrina and her husband on different dates.
Another accused Shafiqul Islam gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka magistrate.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry suspended Dr Sabrina from the post of registrar doctor at the NICVD for violating rules.
Four cases have already been filed against JKG Health Care on various charges including fraudulence.
