Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave a legal notice to Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Sylhet Sixers for their non-payment to four overseas cricketers. BPL Governing Council's Member Secretary Ismail Haider Mollik confirmed the news on Wednesday.
Recent media release of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) in relation to its 'Men's Global Employment Report 2020', has listed BPL as one of the sanctioned leagues where late payment or non-payment issues persist. BCB protested its claim and informed that one franchise didn't pay four foreign recruits which is an isolated matter.
Sylhet Sixers is the franchise, which didn't pay salaries to West Indian batsman Nicholas Pooran, Afghan cricketer Gulbadin Naib, Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanveer and coach Waqar Younis. SS tented them for 2018-19 seasons.
"It's an isolated incident and BCB has taken initiatives to solve it," Mollik told to journalists. "We sent legal notice to the franchise to pay the players as soon as possible," he added.
"We have little things to do here. We don't have scope to pay them since all of them were taken from outside the draft," he clarified the situation.
These types of disputes must bring defamation for the BCB and can create reluctance among overseas players regarding BPL. BCB official admit it and showed his concerns to stop repetition of such practices. He said, "Such allegation affects our image. So, we have taken the matter seriously".
"BPL is a BCB's tournament and BCB is related to all good and bad sides of it. In future, we must look after the issues carefully," he assured.
