BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that they are waiting for the party chairperson Khaleda Zia to be allowed to go abroad for better medical treatment.
The BNP leader expressed the hope while paying tributes on Saturday at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of the capital city on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Speaking to reporters, Mirza Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia is quite unwell. "Her health problems continue and she is not allowed to go abroad for medical treatment. Even, she can't go to local hospitals given the prevailing circumstances."
Fakhrul said, "We are waiting for her to be given the permission to go abroad."
"If Khaleda Zia was well, we would have brought her here," he said. "But she was detained in a false case. She detained under all sorts of conditions."
Greeting the people on the occasion of Eid, the BNP Secretary General said only the standing committee members had come to pay their respects at Ziaur Rahman's grave due to the coronavirus pandemiuc. People have been facing both the virus and floods this time, he added.
Fakhrul said, "I call upon the government to end negligence and rehabilitate the flood victims, not just providing relief. The floods may last long."
