'Yaba trader' killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

A suspected Yaba trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Border Guard Bangaladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday night.

The deceased was a Myanmar national. He came to Bangladesh ten years ago and started living here in Naityangpara area under ward no: 1 of Teknaf.

On information that a big consignment of Yaba from Myanmar will enter Bangladesh, a team of BGB conducted a drive in Keari Canal area at night.
The BGB patrol team noticed a man entered Bangladesh from Mynmar by swimming in the Naf River and met two other  people waiting there.

As the team chased them, they opened fire on BGB members, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

The team, later, found a bullet-injured man in the spot and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

Following deterioration of his health condition, he was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where he died.

A pistol, a bullet and 40,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth around Tk 1,20,00,000 were recovered from the spot.
