Jamuna water levels rise again, continue to increase in coming days
The water level of the Jamuna River has increased again at Sadar and Kazipur points in Sirajganj district after a pause of nine days.
Water Development Board deputy divisional engineer AKM Rafiqul Islam said the water level of the river increased 5cm at Sirajganj point which is 39cm below of the danger level and it increased 3cm at Kazipur point which is 35cm below the danger level.
The water levels of the river would continue to rise in upcoming days, he added.
Earlier the water level of the river was increased in the middle of June and it was flowing 46 cm above the danger level at Sirajganj point and 70cm at Kazipur point in the last week of the month.
The water level was stable on July 1 and started to reduce from July 2.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Faruqe Ahmed said they are monitoring the overall situation.
“All preparations have been taken to mitigate sufferings of people,” he added.
District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Abdur Rahim said they have allocated 400 metric tons of rice and Tk 5 lakh for the district.
Of the allocation, few were distributed in Kazipur, Ullapara, Shahjadpur, Chouhali and Belkuchi upazilas, he added.
